As the name of the movie suggests, it was shot in scenic Kashmir which has been one of the places I want to visit once in life which has grown ever since watching this movie and reading " The monk who sold his ferrari". Shammi Kapoor is known for the love of music and for me his acting in the songs was his biggest forte. It is learned that everyone involved in the movie including the actors were consulted in making of this song. This movie was a debut of Sharmila Tagore but Shammi reached peak of his career from this movie. I might have been biased (blown away) by this great trio but couldn't help mentioning this song. I would rather say Tareef karoon kya ski jinnee Rafi, Shammi aur O. This list is about tareef (praise) and how can this song escape. Yeh Chaand Sa Roshan (Kashmir Ki Kali, 1964) Other songs in Safar also great and contains larger than life lyrics such asģ. I feel this song is one of the best picturized song of the duet of Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore. In the movie Safar (1970) released around the same time as Anand, also starring Rajesh Khanna, he plays the role of Cancer patient but I loved Anand more than Safar which otherwise is also a great movie. Just listening to this song made me watch the movie safar. Kishor da's voice has added further fragrance to this song. Although, each and every verses of the lyrics is unsurpassable I loved the lines I'm not sure how a lyricist who can write fabulous sad songs such as Kasme wade pyar wafa (Upkaar, 1967) and Dil Aisa Kisi Ne Mera Toda (Amanush, 1976) can write such romantic songs like Chandan Sa Badan ( Saraswatichandra, 1968). It is definitely hard to comprehend but I listened this song continuously for two days and a half at home and also at work this week.
Although sometimes even the English of Nasir seems to be difficult :-D. However, for people who find it difficult to understand the hindi/urdu used in the songs, Nasir in his blog, has made a huge effort to translate most of the Rafi's songs in English, including this here.

Each and every line of the lyrics is full of praise and emotion for the beloved. To add to that this started the fame for Shammi Kapoor. Since the songs are so lovely who would complain. Beautiful songs in the movie along with "Sar par topi lal" might as well have been designed to promote Ameeta as well :-D. Considerable effort was put on Ameeta's make-up and wardrobe. I have read that this movie was made to promote "Ameeta", and Shammi Kapoor was not a success in bollywood until this movie. If I've to list of songs that should have some form of romance how can I start with any other song except including the trio of " King of Romance" Shammi Kapoor the legendary Rafi shaab and the musical maestro O P Nayyar or should I say quartet including the great lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi. Yun To Humne Lakh Haseen Dekhe Hein (Tumsa Nahin Dekha, 1956) I sometimes wonder why there are no such lovely songs in the current decade. There is a definite bias to the old songs and it features no songs from 21st century. I also excluded the song like Jadu Teri Nazar (Darr, 1993) considering the context in which it was song :P. These are also not the list of the romantic songs that you can sing to your beloved hence songs such as O Mere Dil Ki Chain from Mere Jiwan Sathi (1972) are also missing. Hence, some absolute gem of duet songs like Sar Par Topi Lal from Tumsa Nahin Dekha (1956), Kya Khoob Lagti Ho from Dharmatma(1975) and Na Kajre Ki Dhaar from Mohra (1994) are missing (I needed a reason to put the songs out of list than inside the list :P). I made an effort to list only solo songs. After I continuously listened Jeevan Se Bhari from Safar (1970) I thought of jotting down few songs that are sung/written in approbation of the beloved. So, just selecting a dozen songs to appreciate your beloved is an arduous task especially considering the fact that there are probably millions of songs in bollywood and more than one-third of them are romantic in nature. Well, any number of songs to complement your beloved would always be less.
